Extract from Wikipedia Brahmanical Tradition Cosmogony and the Antediluvian history [ edit ] According to the Vedic traditions, human history proceeds in cycles, dependent on the evolutions and dissolutions of the world. Time is divided into four ages –  Krita Yuga ,  Treta Yuga ,  Dvapara Yuga  and  Kali Yuga  – collectively forming one  Maha Yuga . Seventy-one Mahayugas form a  Manvantara , a period of time over which a  Manu  presides. In each cycle, this Manu is the first man and also the first king and lawgiver. Urban/City Warfare Strategy

The Battle of Stalingrad is a classic example of studying the Urban/City Warfare Strategy. The Russians had stood ground to the last minute to defend Stalingrad and have turned the multi floored apartment blocks, factories, warehouses, street corner residences and office buildings into a series of small fortresses with 5 to 10 infantry men and few snipers. The army was constantly sent additional troops by sending army from the Volga. When a small building turned fortress was taken then an attempt was made to retake it with fresh army units.

This war has turned into a close quarter combat war with close gun fights and even fist fights. The Russians has smaller guns and pistols which were very effective in close quarter gun shot combat while the Germans heavier and advanced guns were not suited for the close quarter combat fights in the city. The Germans did not use the tactic of taking the city house by house but instead marched into the city and had used air planes to bomb the city.

Bitter fighting raged for every ruin, street, factory, house, basement, and staircase. Even the sewers were the sites of firefights. The Germans, calling this unseen urban warfare Rattenkrieg ("Rat War"), bitterly joked about capturing the kitchen but still fighting for the living room and the bedroom. Buildings had to be cleared room by room through the bombed-out debris of residential neighborhoods, office blocks, basements and apartment high-rises. Some of the taller buildings, blasted into roofless shells by earlier German aerial bombardment, saw floor-by-floor, close quarters combat, with the Germans and Soviets on alternate levels, firing at each other through holes in the floors

The Urban combat is very different in terms of presence of civilians and the inability to distinguish the civilians from the enemy soldiers, limited field of fire and limited field of view because of presence of buildings, houses, threat of snipers and booby traps and the inability to identify them easily. The buildings, apartments, factories and warehouses will turn into small fortresses for the defenders and would provide them cover and defensive positions. The defenders can use anti tank guns and can hide themselves and can demolish entire tank battalions.

To counter these defensive position advantage several tactics can be used like attacking each house and then moving forward and using ladders to climb the rooftops and using pick axes to remove doors and make holes in the walls and then using machine guns to fire the defenders. The other tactic is to use tanks with light machine gun units and blowing all the defensive positions like walls, windows and roof tops and capturing each house and then moving forward. If the enemy uses barricades as defensive positions then using a Heavy artillery to blow it up will help to gain an advantage in the urban warfare.

Modus Operandi of Factionalism in Rayalaseema-Extract from Shodganga

III. FACTIONALISM: HISTORICAL AND SOCIO ECONOMIC ORIGINS  This chapter attempts to analyse the nature of factionalism and the reasons as to why it is fraught with culture of violence in the Rayalaseema region and also to trace the growth of factions in Kurnool district from pre-independence to postindependence period. The present scenario indicates that the armed factional culture is prevailing in the three districts, Kurnool, Cuddapah and Anantapur of Rayalaseema. While landed disputes, conflicts for personal prestige and dominance characterise the politics in the state, it is in Rayalaseema that they lead to murders and counter murders as the factions are armed factions. To this issue people mythically remark that the 'soil' of Rayalaseema is known for such behaviour and its water nourishes it. They also attribute it to the "water" of rivers like Kundu and Handri' . The other question as to why in Rayalaseema in general and specifically in Kurnool district,...
