Drug Trafficking to USA,Western Europe is a major profitable business for the criminal enterprises in Latin American countries like Mexico and Colombia.The Medellin Cartel and the Cali Cartels of Colombia played a huge role in running this criminal business and now the Tijuana cartel and few other Mexican cartels have taken the lead role in running this criminal enterprise.
Pablo Escobar is a major figure and was a wanted drug lord by the USA DEA(Drug Enforcement Agency) and was eventually killed by the combined effort of DEA,CIA,Colombian Law Enforcement officials,Cali Cartel ,Anti Communist Guerrillas and the rebels in the Medellin Cartel.Pablo had around 300 sicarios( A latin word for Assassin) working for him during his high time when he made a lot of money in the Drug Trafficking business and even went to sit in the Colombian Assembly as a Member for few days and was eventually removed from the post due to the allegations against him that he was criminal in the garb of politician.Pablo started by smuggling Cocaine from Colombia to USA and managed the Police,Government officials and Press by bribing them with money and also by threatening to kill them and also by killing them if needed by using his Sicarios.His Medellin cartel was feared by other cartels like Cali Cartel.The way Medellin cartel worked was by Charismatic and populist image of Pablo who would donate some money to the poor families in Medellin and would spend extravagant money on parties and for publicity but at the same time using the same money to hire Sicarios to kill people who deceived him or betrayed him or rebelled against him.Pablo was loved very much by his Sicario followers that they preferred dying for him rather than betraying him.The Medellin cartel used to hide money in various houses and in the sand pits.The Medellin cartel was responsible for killing of few honest ministers,police officers and also for setting the Supreme court on fire and burning the files which were evidence against them.They also had a tie up with the Communist Guerrillas who helped in the effort to set Supreme Court on fire.
The Cali Cartel was very different in the way they functioned.They were very secretive and also used to pose as Business man rather than as Drug lords and preferred to hang with the elite of Colombia rather than the poor and they had advanced security and intelligence networks and used to use very advanced methods to route their money earned from drug business into various legitimate businesses.They also owned various legal businesses and once the Medellin Cartel was removed by the combined effort of Colombian Law Enforcement officials,Cali,Anti Communist,CIA,DEA and Rebels in the Medellin cartel Cali Cartel became the defacto leader in running this drug smuggling criminal enterprise.The Cali Cartel also had Sicarios and informants in Police,Government,People,Taxi drivers and they ran a counter intelligence effort similar to Military in the country.They had an Account book where they used to write how much they paid each Government official and what was the deal made.They even financed the Political parties and the leaders in winning the elections in the country.Cali Cartel eventually fell because of betrayal by the top Security officer in the cartel and also by the effort of DEA agents who tracked the Accountant of the cartel on suspicion and found the boss of the Cartel and were able to catch him.Then the DEA successfully caught the Brother of the Drug kingpin of the Cali Cartel and then the passing of the law that the Drug traffickers can be sentenced to punishment in USA also had led to the punishment of the cartel members and the eventual fall of the Cali Cartel.
El Chapo is another important figure in the drug trafficking business and is based out of Mexico and was the head of the Sinoloa cartel.He was the first to invent the underground tunnels system to ship cocaine from Mexico to USA thus reducing the shipment time and improving the efficiency of the process thus earning a name for himself in the drug trafficking business.He killed all the people who helped him build the tunnel from Mexico to USA.He used to ship drugs in chilli containers and used to use front companies to ship drugs to USA .He also used to have his own jets to ship the product to USA.He also used the tires in the cars and trucks to ship the product thus becoming one of the top figures in the drug trafficking business in Mexico and was rated as the top most powerful person in Mexico after Carlos Slim.He was put in jail many times and he also managed to escape the prison few times by bribing people and by digging tunnels.He was finally caught by US and extradited to USA to face criminal charges.
